本人5月初I-140（EB1-a）/485 co-file，今天收到email，case status更新，要求补充材料，还没有收到mail notice。请问寄回补充材料时，还要另附cover letter吗？推荐信准备几封为好？？

补充材料不应该通过律师寄回吗？ 先看看要求补充什么再说吧

补充材料一般新的推荐信回有帮助. case status是网上的即时更新, 比正式的信来的快些.

RFE的问题可能大, 可能小. 目前本版还没有看到有人自己应对RFE的. 咨询律师可能是更稳妥也更值得的. 偶当初加了六封推荐信, 倒是因为我自己的工作环境发生了一些变化. 简单的cover letter一般是免不了的.
Don't panic. Many petitioners could receive RFEs from USCIS, and there are many successful cases.
While the adjudicator of your case could raise some specific issues for you to response, the focus of almost all of the responses to RFEs are the same, that is, to readdress your academic excellence, your achievements and the significance thereof. Of course the emphasis for EB-1/1 and NIW is a little bit different. To do this, you will have to submit to the USCIS your newly published works, your new findings, and new testimonial letters from experts and authorities,etc.
A new coverletter is needed. But it does not need to be lengthy.
