I am not hahawei, but hope my experience will be helpful.
On campus recruiting is one of the effective ways to get into Big 4 especially if you do not have any related experience before. However, if you have experience, you can try to send your resumes via the big 4 website. For example, I failed in the big 4 recruiting events on campus last Sept. I sent my resume to DT, KPMG and EY via their website this August and got responses from all three for further contact in September and October. I believe big four recruiters are also reviewing applications submitted on line, but it may take longer for you to get responses. ONE TIP: DONOT submit your applications if you are not ready. They (big four websites) do not accept re-submission in three months, even it is for different openings!
If you do not hang to Big fours, there are even more opportunities on Monster.com, yahoo hotjobs etc. According to my experience, there are a lot of accounting related openings and once you posted your resume, many recruiters are gonna contact you. Don’t hesitate to make use of them. I got my offer as internal auditor in a multinational company by posting my resume on such kind of job hunting website. The tough thing for me is I need sponsorship for H-1 visa. Some companies and most medium and small sized accounting firms do not provide sponsorship, but some still do. So tell the recruiters your situations and they will refer you if there are suitable openings.

I have just started a couple of weeks, so I really cannot tell a lot about what the actual work is like.
Internal auditor work for the company, and they do almost the same thing as independent auditors, but may spend more time on internal control audit.Internal auditors spend half time on internal control audit and half on financial audit. I know my position has a lot of travel (about 70-80%), you will go to different cities is US, Europe or even Asia depending on how big the company is. The company pays you well when you are on trip, good hotels, meal allowances, and bonus treat from airline companies. Its really an attract for people interested in different cultures and enjoy traveling. However, it is really a challenge if you want more stable life or have family concerns.
If you work for big four, probably you are not going to have a lot of long trips because they have offices all over the country, most clients are within driving distance. The good thing is you will meet clients in different industries and find your most interested area. You will find a lot of great options for you after 2-3 years’ working experience.
Generally speaking, internal auditors and independent auditors have the same pay for same level staff.
