We want to apply for the GC through 傑出人才 or 國家利益豁免. I heard many people say that in this case you need a lawyer to help you apply for the GC. But the fee for a lawyer is pretty high for us. Do we have to hire a lawyer? If we don't, will the possibility of being approved be very low? Is there any person here get GC without lawyer?

We applied for EB1 without a lawyer and got approved. I heard most people hire lawyers though. You can try either way. If you go for a lawyer, you'd better choose a GOOD one, otherwise it may be even worse than DIY. Good luck!
Would you mind telling me where I can find DIY information?
I learned even if I hire a lawyer, I still need to do a lot of things myself. If a lawyer is just responsible to fill out my name, company, salary... I would rather do it myself and avoid their delay and mistakes. Thanks a lot.

Yeah. Co-ask!
我觉得还是找律师保险些。

There are many DIY packages online and it's hard to say which one is best. Two years ago, my husband bought one package by searching with google. If you buy one, you can follow the samples of cover letter and recommendation letter, but do not rely on it 100%. For example, the cover letter in our DIY package is too brief, so we had to add a lot of words describing my husband's research and contribution, just to make it sound more convincing. There are a lot of immigration forums and lawyers' websites where you can get useful info. about EB1 and NIW.
A immigration lawyer is not merely supposed to fill out the forms. In addition, he can help you polish the application materials (cover letter and recom. letters), organize the package, give you advice, and reply to RFE if there's any. Of course you can do all of these by yourself. If at any time you feel stuck, go for a good lawyer.
