One thing I am sure is that if you want to buy index fund, the minimum balance to avoid maintainace fee is 10k. I am not quite sure about the fee for a normal mutual fund. It says that "$10 a year for each fund account with a balance of less than $5,000 for IRA account". Is that mean for each fund we should invest at least 5k to avoid the fee or not?
