I kind of disagree. What you said makes some sense, but those who trades finance stocks, are looking for big returns, not stable returns. So that is actually a good news for some of those people.

Also, do not forget you can short stocks. If you can predict that the situation will really be that bad soon, then just short it then you can make big money as well.

Buy some put options  if you predict the stock  prise will go down and you also can hedge your risk by taking some short positions.
