Try the excel amortization schedule template below (click the URL and download the template). It appears to  be pretty handy. The spreadsheet creates a payment schedule for a fixed-rate loan, with optional extra payments. It tells you the interest portion and principle portion of your monthly payment, as well as remaining principle at any point during the term of the loan. This template can also be used for mortgage payment calculation, as long as the loan is a fixed-rate loan.
