i think the bush admin. know this and are scared to death because they know that all this cash injected into the bank is not yet working. if nothing major happens in 2-3 weeks and this stagnation keeps going on, we can probably expect a long recession like that in japan, and with >10% unemployment. if we see deflation, everyone is going to be screwed.

i think it is still not too late to get your 401k out at this moment.

there are 2 types of municipal bonds issued by state or local governments, general obligation bonds and revenue bonds. yes they are exempt from federal and the issuing state local tax.

the first type is backed by the full faith of credit (taxing power) of the issuer, the second type is issued to finance specific projects (airports, hospitals, etc.)

the risks: revenue bonds > general obligation bonds >federal bonds.

remember that NJ state gov. declared bankruptcy and shutdown for a while some time ago.
