Butterflykisses MM, I can't reply to you using message because my answer is too long. So here it is:

I openned a Roth IRA account. There is no open fee or cost
to that account. Maybe there is hidden cost that I missed? Here is my
understanding to the different kinds of costs quoted in your message:

Fund
expenses: Some funds require those fees up front, I believe the term
for those kind of funds is "loaded". The fund I purchase is from
fidelity itself and is not loaded. I have purchased some loaded fund
before (ITHAX).

brokerage commissions: Not sure what that is for the Roth IRA account.

low-balance fees: I purchase fund monthly, thus don't have this fee.

short-term
trading fees: If you sell some funds shortly after you have bought
them, there will be a cost. To avoid those costs, you need to wait a
certain period of time, before you can sell it. This period of time
varies for different kind of funds.

account closing fees: Not sure about that, either.

Hope
it helps. The customer service from fidelity.com is very helpful. I
talked with them at the phone as I opened the account. At that time, I
also had a lot of questions concerning costs, fees, etc.

Happy New Year to you too!
