Have a or a ?Federal Telephone Excise Tax Refund (www.irs.gov) |
|
The Telephone Excise Tax Refund (TETR) is a one-time payment available on your 2006 federal income tax return. It is designed to refund previously collected long distance telephone taxes. Taxpayers have a choice: a standard refund amount between $30 and $60, based on the total number of exemptions claimed on their 2006 tax return, to eliminate the need to locate old phone bills; or they can locate those bills and use the actual amount. Normally for us NRAs (non-residence aliens), you can find it on 1040S-EZ form, line 21 or 1040S form, line 69. Generally for one exemption (unless you have a dependent who has a joint tax return for with you)--you must have a cellphone or land phone with long distance call service between Feb. 28, 2003 and Aug. 1, 2006, you can ask for $30 dollars!! Or you can find out your old phone bills to add it up!! You decide which way you can earn more. |
