谁给扫盲一下social security tax ？听说如果不交的话，将来吃亏的。一点都不明白，谁给说说啊？谢谢！![]()

You have to pay it, otherwise IRS will look for you. If you are working for somebody else, your employee will deduct from your pay check (If my memory serves me right 6.2% of your paycheck, and employee will pay the same amount for you too. ifyou are self employeed, you will have to double the amount.
If you are student with F1 visa and you are in F1 status less than 5 years, or you are in OPT, you don't need to pay social security; otherwise, you have to pay along with Medicare. It is mandatory. Your company will withhold both Social Security and Medicare for you.And actually, your company will pay the same amount of Social Security and Medicare on behalf of you:D
does it mean that even if i just passed 5 year F1, but I'm in OPT, so i still should not pay SS & medicare tax? is that correct?

那如果我今年想用RESIDENT报税 （还是F1），可是我的W2上没有扣除这些税（估计还是按照NR算的），我需要补交吗？
