I have done 4 root canal in China, and 3 root canal here. I would say the skills of the dentist here is way much worse than that in China. you will feel pain after root canal, but generally it should disappear in 3 or 4 days. If you still feel pain (or as you said, a lot of pain), there must be something wrong with the root canal---there must be some nerves still alive, root canal basically will kill all the nerves in that tooth. I think that's the first dentist's fault. btw, if a dentist can do root canal, he/she should be able to make crown (or at least make your tooth mode and order your crown) for you, I would suggest you first contact with your first dentist to let him/her know the problem, then after he/she fix your problem on this tooth, change to another dentist. Also the third dentist's suggestion is wrong according to what I heard from my chinese dentist friend, in four weeks (or two months? I can't remember clearly) after root canal, you have to put on the crown because the tooth after root canal will be brittle and easy to break/crack. hope this will help.

oh, another thing is, if your tooth has been totally dead and cracked, which means you can't make a crown on it, then it seems there are two ways: first, if there is still a root for that tooth, then the dentist can use that root and "plant" a kernal using that root, then put a crown on that kernal. The second way is to make a bridge, which means using the two teeth besides the root-canal tooth as the support part, and make a three-teeth crown for all of them. I think the second way required to do root canal for the other good teeth too, I can't remember exactly. ask your dentist. also I am wondering why don't you ask your dentist these questions. Surgery on tooth are pretty expensive here, and so long as you pay them, you have the right to know everything that you want to know about your teeth and the operation they've done in your month. good luck.

谢谢楼上的解答和建议。我上次做完根管后痛得死去活来，但是那个医生却不回我电话，后来我就很生气地说我不去你那里继续治疗了，保险和我的copay我已经都付给他了，所以我不会去找第一个医生。而且在他这里做完以后问题一堆，说明他的技术有问题，我也没法相信他了。

我同意你说的第三个医生，他的矫正建议纯粹莫名其妙，我自己经过这次教训也在网上做了一些research,知道根管之后必须尽快作crown。我现在在想要不要回到他这里作crown，因为他说过等半年一年都可以作，所以我就问问他现在这样还能不能作，不知道是不是自讨苦吃

我心里还是不想拔掉的，毕竟在中间，拔掉一个大窟窿影响太大了，我不想还没老就带假牙，而且钱也是一个问题

至于bridge,最后一次看的医生，建议我把这颗牙拔了，作bridge或者implant,做法就是象你说的这样，但是没有说两边的牙齿也要做root canal,就算建议了，我现在也是心有余悸，绝对不敢再做了

My experience is that to do root canal here will take longer than doing it in China. My dentist friend helped me to finish 3 root-canal and crowns in 2 month, and after so many years there is no problem at all. So if you have vacation back to China for around two month, going to a big dental specialized hospital to fix your teeth will be better than doing them here.
About making a bridge, I am not sure whether the other two teeth will do root canal or not, but as for my case, I did. The reason is that my teeth are pretty small, when the dentist polished a layer off the teeth, she already touched my nerves in my teeth, that's why the only choice was to do root-canal on the other two teeth too. as you know, bridge is actually putting three crowns on your two teeth, since the middle orignal teeth has been gone.

If the dentist insists that you should pull off your bad tooth, better don't wait too long (for example one years) to make the bridge, because at that time, your tooth arrangement in your mouth may have changed, which is not good for making a bridge.
