李安一贯很少在电影里下论断，大概除了喜宴里憋不住的那句话，而他的作品也一贯维持sympathy的tone，这可能也是他个人的一种性格特质。只不过，以往他sympathy的角色多局限在爱情、家庭这样的伦理冲突中，比较易得多数人的认同，可这次他同情的对象，放到国家的层面，尽管在创作上仍然是一如既往的冷静不介入的风格（我甚至觉得他比以往做得更好），可是本身内容碰到某个底线，结果就变得如此争议了。
This is why I think this movie is a big stepd forward for him. He shows real courage as an artist. Bravo!
But I do think it could be improved slightly if he could get rid of some redundant details.
Wang Jiazhi wanted, and eventually rebelled her own way of life, since it was just so wrong. I mean the way she led her life was just wrong, not simply what she has been doing specifically.
well, what is right? stay alive and don't even take on the job? I guess you can argue that. I respect the story for what it is and I greatly enjoyed it. More specifically, I love the fact that what people think is stupid or dispicable actually reflects what real characters are and what people do not want to face, and the fact that this is shown on a big screen is a challenge. I don't wanna see a Miiss perfect life in her perfect world or some fantasy that can never come true...or maybe once in a while just for laughs.
For those who think Ang Lee misrepresented those anti-jap students... I don't even think that was any point of the movie, even if he super twisted the original story and made these students more 'humanized' as some of you say, I still wouldn't change my point of view of this movie. It was simply not important at all IMHO.
其实从头到尾，我没有觉得WJZ是不可原谅的，亦没有觉得易先生是多么人人得而诛之。他们俩的行为，虽然我都不认可，但是我都觉得是可以理解的。但是我不能接受的，是李安在花了大功夫刻画WJZ和易先生的“人性”的同时，也许是为了衬托他们二人，却是简单，粗暴的“非人性化”了其他所有的爱国学生。
我觉得我以及其他几个人一再重复的就是这个观点，但是某人或者是选择型失明，或者曲解这个意思，耸肩。

No, she just doesn't agree Ann Lee's attitude. Do you think that the critics who complimented this movie are those kind of people who like being told what to do? I bet Ann Lee would be surprised by her interpretation if he knew it. People from different background don't think in the same way, but it is another complicated topic, way beyond the movie.
I don't think the director is trying to tell anybody what to do. Some of the propaganda movies do.

It is not because they tend to "think too much", it is just based on different level of tolerance in controversial topics.
compared with Zhang's story, I think Ang Lee gave more sympathy to these students, but seems people likely to make judgement on some established bias.
I didn't dare to say that. I bet they definitely don't agree. They will say we are biased. Let's just say we have disagreements on certain "truths".

he's too romantic to get rid of the the kissing scene with 王丽红 or the yelling at 老吴。I'm a romantic so I purely enjoyed it :)
Those are not for romantic purpose. He was just trying to explicitly demonstrate more inner thinking of Jiazhi, since he was afraid that some of the
audiences don't understand what was going on with her.
