I am a student. I recently realized that I had worked at a international orgnization located in the U.S. in the summer without CPT permission (I have thought I had got the CPT and could work legally during the summer, but for some reason it hadnot been approved.). The official in the International Education Services told me that I would be considered as "out of F-1 visa status" if they detected this because of unauthorized employment.

My question is: will they detect this and how? since the payment of that international orgnization does not go to W2. And actually my W2 form did not reflect the income I earned in the international organization, so is anybody know if W2/IRS is the only way for them to detect if a person worked or not?

But the person in the International Education Service seems quite sure that I need fix this problem and advised me to travel back to China to apply a new visa in order to fix it. The reason why I so care about it is because I need to apply for OPT recently and if I am not in good status, I may have trouble. Do you know how and where I can make sure about this? Thanks.
