I have both of my sons when I was doing my phD (biomedical area). My older one was born 3 month before my qualifying exam and grant deadline. My younger one was born 4 month before my thesis defense. My parents and in-laws helped for the first year and then we are on our own for both kids. It is very challenging physically and metally, but I dont regret it.
