Today I chatted with an Indian coworker, he jusk spoke without thinking that Tibet is an independent country, even PRC claim it's part of the China; and China had invaded India during 60's and never admitted, it's not better than Japan. He is not hostile to China, actually he was asking if he wanted to move to China, which city is a good choice for him. I had to argue with him that Tibet has been considered as part of China even before PRC was there, but he said people in Tibet would say they are independent....and about the war between India and China in 60's, I don't know much about the history to argue with him. I think it's a fight about Tibet, any one knows?
So it's really case by case.
about the history with India, it's still under debate. Historically the border was not that clear so the Indians actually "stole" part of our territory. However, their side has their own version of the same story as well. It's hard to say who is right or who is wrong, but just tell him that the new Agreement was signed by China and India already, so it is done. Also tell him that centurys ago China was a lot bigger but we are not going to claim it now :-D
For the argument regarding Tibet, tell him that feel free to claim that it is an independent country if that place can support themselves without China's economic support. Tibet is part of China and it's part of the economic system of China. If they want to send billions of $ to Tibet every year, feel free to do so. haha.
