Somebody use 401K to lower tax responsibility currently. You are picking it up when you get old. Also that is a way to remind you for saving for purpose such as buying a house. That is my understanding. Most employer only match when the employee contribute. As long as your boss is matching anyway and you don't need to lower your tax rate, you do not have to contribute.
