This sounds more like a layoff by reorganization. It is not a good idea to persuade yourself that your were fired. In my company, if there is a proved track of good performance, say top 10% award for the last year, this guy shouldn't be fired. Otherwise those evaluation system is nonsense and those commitment of good manufacture is nonsense. For reorganization, there must be official record showing that a department was closed. Everything else can be counted in discrimination.
