Don't worry too much.  Once I lost a credit card without even realizing it, and when I found out days later, the thief spend more than 700 overnight...  I called the credit card company.  They send me an affidavit to sign, and that's all.  It didn't hurt my credit history in anyway, only a line indicating the card was once stolen/lost.
