It's definitely ok to ask more. You gotta get the best for yourself. Usually I'll ask for at least $5000-$8000 more. If they couldn't give you that much money as a salary, they could still give you it as yearly bonus, then it'll be the same thing. Otherwise, they'll still at least consider to give you a sign-on bonus as a comfort.
