That's exactly right.  Certain people work at the bank have the notary stamp who can help you notarize the documentation you bring in.

If you work at a company, there might be people also carry the notary stamp.  I would just give them the copy of DL or the paystub.  More reluctant to give out SSN, especially via fax or in the mail.
