It was my forever dream to visit Yellow Mountain. Remember the Chinese saying "You won't need to tour other mountains after you visit the top 5 mountains, and you won't need to tour the top 5 mountains after you visit Huang Shan".

So the trip finally came true 4 years ago during my visiting back to China. It happened to be long holiday so a group of us squeezed into a van and then took the ride up to the only hotel on top of the mountain to get ready for next morning's big activity - Huang Shan Ri Chu.

At 4am, wearing the red dawn coat provided by the hotel, we walked out of the hotel. Many tents were set up there in front of the hotel by the tourists who came for the same goal (Picture 1). We started to climb the mountain to the sunrise viewpoint. Because we forgot to bring flashlight and it was dark, it did take us a lot of trouble to keep safe and sound on our feet. Fortunately we had an experienced tour guide and my sister just bought a fancy digital camera we could use for a little dim light for emergency. When we arrived the viewpoint, a bunch of people were already there anxiously waiting for the sunrise (Picture 2, the girl in red is my niece).

People started to debate whether we were going to see the sunrise or got. It was said that only 50% time in a sunny day that you are able to see Huang Shan Ri Chu. My sister joked, ”Today it’s going to be 100% because you came a long way here”. I answered, “You too came a long way, 30 something years, right?” So we became confident. And here it comes (Picture 3-4).

Just like the sunrise, Yellow Mountain showed me its own unique charming in many different ways later in the 2-3 days – the Li Yu Bei, the Yin Ke Song, the Hui style archtecture and the nearby Tai Pin Hu. It truly deserves to be a world-class nature and culture heritage, just like Yellowstone. And It was maintained as well as Yellowstone, which makes me even prouder, cause my mom’s friend used to be the manager of the mountain.
