Hmmm...let's see....when I am in a bad mood, I will drive on a highway in 80mph for 100+ miles with my windows open, and then go to the mall buy whatever appears semi decent.....

haha...just kidding...the first part is true. The second part...not so.

Cops probably can't do much if I consistently drive at 80mph, since the speed limit is 75mph for the most part. I do love to go to the Mall of America though. Sounds like a great idea! Good suggestion! Maybe I should save up for a trip to the Mall of America.

Oh wait....are you actually ENCOURAGING a trip to the mall? Unbelievable!!! I though the purpose of this thread is to come up with ideas of managing the compulsive shopping!

First of all, when you are in MN, you'd better drive not so far away from the speed limit, since lately troopers are kind tuff.  Trust me, I look for troopers more than I look on the road.

Unfortunately, a true shopaholic does not simple stop spending even when the debt level is high. Shopaholism is an addition, and is no different than those who are hooked on gambling. Education and self control only work on those who display slight symptom of Shopaholism – loves to shop but shopping has not become a major addition.

I came across the following excerpt from an online article and thought it was interesting enough to share with you guys -

If you feel as though your spending habits might indicate signs of shopaholism then you should start curtailing your behavior as soon as possible. Most compulsive buyers tend to make their spending mistakes in one recurring area. To find out where your weakness lies, take an inventory of everything you own and make a mental note of it so that the next time you go shopping you can resist the urge of buying that item. You can even postpone buying something to quell your urge because if you wait 24 hours, chances are you probably won't want it anymore. Another approach you can take is to buy less than you ordinarily would have, for example, instead of buying three pairs of shoes buy only one. You could also put yourself on a 30 day spending moratorium and use only cash on basic necessities such as food and transportation. Having a strict budget of how you will spend your paycheck and keeping track of every penny also helps.
