Yes, you can handoff your garment bag to the steward, if there is still room in the closet, you can hang it there.  Although some of the smaller airplane don't have closet.  If you only have one suit, i would go with a suiter/roller combo.  Once you arrive at the destination, just hang it up and let the wrinkle fall off.
