This is easy to understand. Writing MBS was very profitable until 2005, but not in 2006. The more you had in 2006, the more you lose. But they can't stop doing this, otherwise their source of capital will dry up.

The founders of NEWC got millions and millions of $ by selling their stock holdings. They are the only people making money in the end. All others are losers.
