Usually the company matching part have a limit.  Say it is 4% of your saraly for the company limit. and they matching 50% of what you put in, then you should put at least 8% to get 4% of maximum from your company.  This way you get 12% on your 4001K and you only have to put in 8%.  However, it is really personel choice. total up to you.
