 yeast infection is the only vaginal infections that can be self-treated with over the counter products, such as miconazole (available by cream, suppository and tablets), and there are 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days treatments, there are all equally effective. I would recommend the 1 day treatment simply because it is the easiest one to use.  It may take up to 7 days for complete relief, does not matter if you use the 1 , 3, or 7 days, meanwhile there are some topical products for instant itching relief. But there is one exception, for women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, they should choose the 7 days treatment, because it has the lowest dose, and would carry the lowest risk for the fetus.

The symptoms for yeast infection are itching, cottage cheese discharge and NO ODOR, it could be confused with bacterial vaginosis, which has similar symptoms, but with a "fishy" odor.  Trichomoniasis is another vagianl infection that is similar to yeast infection, but the discharge would be thin, frothy, foamy with a malodorous odor.

Go to see a physician if you fit one of the following:
-first infection
-symptoms persist beyond 7 days
-recur in 2 months
->4 infections in 12 months

I hope these help!
