Hand surgeon probably will be better choice. I don't think nowadays your PCP will whack a book on your cyst and break it--- that was the traditional treatment procedure! Believe it or not. Nobody will risk the malpractice now to do this any more. You PCP will refer you to hand surgeon anyway. Sometimes they will aspirate the fluids our and try inject steroids to see whether it will disappear.

About the cost, Do you have health insurance? If you do, don't worry! The surgeon/surgery center/anesthesiologist should file with your insurer, then you can arrange to pay the rest.

I cannot estimate what this will cost you--so much depends on your location (state), how complicated the procedure will be, if there will be a biopsy, etc etc.. a small surgery like this with anesthesia usually adds up to $6000.. but it varies.
