我办得是EB2，说说我知道的。
第一步，办PERM，这个以前叫Labor Certificate, 以前办有的要好几年，很多人就给耽误在这里了。现在的PERM申请是网上递交材料，一般60天内就有结果。很多人一个星期就拿到了，比如我。哈哈，比较幸运。这一步，公司要发广告，place job order, 反正特麻烦，比原来的labor certificate 麻烦很多。这里不细说，如果想知道，我再谈。
第二步，I140，这是移民申请，拿到PERM后，就可以递了。
第三步，I485，永久居民或身份调整申请。这个本来是可以和I-140一起交，10。1 后排期，就没名额，不能交了，只能等着，现在才排到2000年，不知道什么时候到2005。只有在这一步，家属才加上。交上这个表，你就可以交申请EAD 和travel document (包括家属的)，一般交了三个月就能拿到，这样配偶就可以用EAD工作，回国实在H1签不过来还可以用 travel document (AP, advanced Parole) 回来。(大部分时候，如果能用H1，就尽量还用H1)

how long does it take ( by average)?
PERM preparation is about 6 months, needs 2 months to get approved (It took only 7 days for me although)
I-140 normally 3 months to 1 year
I-485, before the retrogression, you can submit it and wait around 1.5 - 2 years, but now, you can not even submit it. the cut off date is in 2000, probably needs 2-3 years to move to 2005, and then you can submit your I-485 (if you start green card application now), then take some time (1 year, 2 years? nobody knows) to process.
Anything can be changed during the process, so, nobody really know how long it will take now.
