I have a friend, he is a F1 student, and has been here for only 2 years. Last year he graduated with master degree and started working with his OPT. He used 1040 this year, and got his refund already. I told he was not supposed to file 1040, but he did not listen to me and still filed 1040 and got much more money than just file 1040 NR. And now he is filing to get his social security and medical tax back. So what should I suggest people to do next time? I think LZ should take your own risk if you really need that money.
