401k需要选择百分比, 即工资的一部分进入401k. 这部分作为退休基金, 目前可以记入年收入的deductable, 可以在退休以后支出. 很多公司还会有一定数量的copay进入员工的帐户. 员工有权利选择不参加, 可能这个就是option.

I think it means you can choose "not to participate in the 401(k) plan", that is, you do not voluntarily contribute any portion of your salary into your retirement account. Your company may still contribute a certain percentage, for example 2%, even if you don't defer any of your salary. It depends on whether it's a "match plan" or "discretionary plan"

Check w/your HR for sure
